Dear Colleagues,

It is with great pleasure that we invite all of you to the 9th Congress of the Turkish Society of Toxicology with the participation of the Hellenic Society of Toxicology, which has been abbreviated to TURKHELTOX.

This congress will highlight advancements in science related to the numerous areas of toxicology and will continue a familiar structure with diverse symposia and many short communications for early career researchers. Presentations will also include detailed results from primary studies in the form of posters. The Continuing Education program will provide the opportunity for all kind of attendees to learn about new areas of toxicology.

The Triennial Congress will also provide an important networking forum for the exchange of ideas and identification of solutions for problems with which researchers are dealing in their research.

The Congress continues the series of traditional TST meetings, including meetings in Ankara (1987 and 2009) and many in Antalya (1997, 2006, 2012 etc.). This time, and for the first time, our neighbour across the Aegean Sea, the Hellenic Society is joining in order to enrich the Congress and to make it more fruitful and give added strength. Such a joint congress has been discussed for several years between the two Societies, and we felt that this year is the right time to get together. In this manner, the Congress will be the first official joint activity between Turkish and Greek toxicology societies. Although researchers from both countries have had contact at various scientific events and platforms, it is apparent that TURKHELTOX has a strong potential for establishing further/novel research collaborations, as well as related activities.

While at the meeting, take the opportunity to learn more about Cesme, a city that has been historically an important harbour, as well as an overseas military expedition point for the Ottoman Empire. Cesme has been preserving the harbour along the Turkish Republic period; additionally it is currently a popular holiday destination.

After three full days in Cesme, the last day of the Congress will continue in Chios, the Greek island in Aegean Sea at a distance of 15 km from Cesme. After a scientific session there, Chios will be explored with participants all day. This will be a good opportunity to also taste delicious food on the other side of the Aegean Sea.

On behalf of the organizing and the scientific committees, we wish to express our gratitude to all the speakers, poster presenters and session chairs for sharing their knowledge with us.

Welcome to TURKHELTOX!
